No More Change Fees for American Airlines

American Airlines announced August 31 that they are making it more flexible to travel with them by dropping change fees for First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy and Main Cabin tickets for all domestic and short-haul international flying, effective immediately.

This announcement came on the same day Delta announced their elimination of change fees and a day after United did the same.

“By eliminating change fees, giving customers an opportunity to get where they want to go faster with free same-day standby on earlier flights and providing access to upgrades and seats for all fare types, we’re giving customers the freedom to make their own choices when traveling with American,” said Vasu Raja, American’s chief revenue officer.

American is now also allowing customers to keep the full value of their original tickets if they change their travel plans before their scheduled travel. And, starting October 1, 2020, American is allowing travelers to fly standby on the same day as their original departure for the same destination for free, for domestic and international travel.
